SINGLE/THREE PHASE POWER FUNDAMENTALS
Single/Three-phase power principles involving true
power (watts), reactive power (volt-amps reactive), and apparent power
(volt-amps). Power factor with respect to various load types will be analyzed.
The sizing of a capacitor-bank to achieve unity power factor will be
calculated along with the transformer sizing in KVA based on the load
being served.
A discussion of transformer types, construction, and operation will be presented. The transformer "turns-ratio" will be applied to find the primary/secondary voltages and currents. The relationship between line and phase voltages and currents will be explained with respect to three-phase delta and wye configurations. Harmonics will be defined and analyzed.
A hands-on lab will measure line/phase voltage and current.
